The Case:
- Debbie was struggling with Hashimoto’s symptoms, including fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, and issues with her hair and skin
- She consulted multiple practitioners but hesitated to act without confirmation from others
- She ended up with several conflicting protocols and felt stuck, unsure of how to move forward
I suspected that beneath all of the confusion, what she really needed was to feel safe in her own body and to rebuild her trust in herself.
Reconnecting to the Body’s Inner Wisdom: The Role of Intuition in Thyroid Healing
When I met Debbie, she had seen multiple providers, collected advice and protocols, but instead of taking action, she was stuck in limbo, trying to get consensus from practitioners who had never even spoken to each other. Each opinion added confusion, and she was losing trust in herself with every new plan she didn’t follow through on.
This isn’t uncommon in Hashimoto’s or other autoimmune journeys. The desire to do the “right” thing can actually pull us further away from the wisdom of our own body. That’s why I invited Karly Ashworth to join me on the show. She’s a world-renowned intuitive and transformational coach whose work is changing lives across the globe. With a professional background in hypnotherapy and a deeply intuitive gift, Karly helps people connect to their inner power, align with their soul’s purpose, and create extraordinary breakthroughs in all areas of life. I knew she would be just the person to help me explore how reconnecting to our inner knowing can support the physical healing process, particularly when it comes to the thyroid.
What Is Intuition (and Do We All Have It)?
According to Karly, every person is born intuitive. It’s not reserved for the spiritually inclined or psychically gifted. Intuition is simply a sixth sense. It’s an inner compass that communicates with us through physical cues, subtle thoughts, sensations, and emotional responses.
Some of the most common signs include:
- Goosebumps or chills when something deeply resonates
- Tears or emotional surges that feel disproportionate to the moment
- A subtle inner voice that feels calm and clear
- Physical signals like tension in the gut or the hair standing up on the back of your neck
What stood out to me in our conversation was Karly’s explanation of how intuition is quiet, while fear is loud. That really resonated with me, because when I first started tuning in to my own intuition, I expected it to be bold and obvious. But it was more like a whisper, my own voice in my own head, offering calm reassurance or a gentle nudge.
Intuition, the Throat Chakra, and the Thyroid
Karly shared how the throat chakra (our energetic center of expression) plays a key role in how we relate to our thyroid health. When we suppress our voice, hold back our truth, or stay stuck in indecision, we literally block the energy in this area.
For many of us, especially women, this can become a pattern: feeling pressure to please, avoid conflict, or doubt ourselves. That energy stagnation can create emotional and energetic stress that eventually affects the physical body, particularly the thyroid.
How Emotional Triggers Can Impact Hashimoto’s
If you’ve listened to this podcast before, you’ve heard me talk about physical triggers like EBV, mercury, gluten, and stress. But emotional triggers are just as real and just as impactful. However, we can sometimes ignore these emotions or deny their impact.
Karly says that there are three common reasons clients seek her help:
- Crossroads – they know something needs to change
- Clarity – they’re unsure what the next step is
- Choice – they fear making the wrong decision
When we’re stuck emotionally, it’s like the immune system goes into confusion, too. Our bodies reflect the stories and fears we hold inside. This is why journaling, meditation, and clearing emotional “debris” are not just spiritual practices; they’re healing tools.
Distractions, Grounding, and Getting Quiet Enough to Listen
One thing that stood out in our conversation was the idea that many of us can’t hear our intuition because there’s just too much noise. Karly broke distractions into four categories:
- Physical (clutter, disorganized environments)
- Environmental (constant stimulation or stress in your space)
- Social (obligations you say yes to but don’t want to)
- Inner (overthinking, critical self-talk, and indecision)
Before we can get clarity from within, we often need to quiet the chaos around and inside us. That’s where practices like meditation, walking with intention, and grounding come in. If you feel like meditation just isn’t available to you, the good news is that Karly says there are other ways to access your inner voice. She says that even five minutes of conscious stillness a day can help reconnect you.
How Intuition Led to Greater Health
With Debbie, we started simple. She committed to a few minutes of journaling and walking meditation every day. At first, she wasn’t sure she was “doing it right,” but over time, she started to notice patterns. For her, intuition showed up as a sensation, kind of like a physical feeling that she soon learned to interpret. She was so surprised that her body was actually talking to her.
As she grew more confident, we revisited her thyroid protocol. Her labs showed that she had high TSH subtype 2, meaning elevated TSH but normal thyroid hormone levels, which meant she was being overmedicated, and that was contributing to her anxiety.
We adjusted her plan by reducing unnecessary medication and adding targeted supplements to support TSH levels without increasing thyroid hormone. Within six weeks, her anxiety decreased, her energy returned, her skin was glowing, and her hair loss stopped.
But most importantly? She trusted herself again.
How to Make Your Intuition a Healing Partner
We often seek out experts (like me!) to guide us, and that’s an important part of the process. But healing also requires that we reclaim our role in the partnership. Trusting your body. Listening to your gut. Not giving away your power.
Intuition may not be something your doctor can prescribe, but it’s one of the most powerful tools we have on the healing path, especially with complex, confusing conditions like Hashimoto’s.
If you’re not sure where to start, take five minutes. Sit. Breathe. Write down what you notice. Tune in. You might be surprised by what you hear.
And if you’re ready to understand your thyroid type and how to support it more precisely, I invite you to join my next free training at innatopiler.com/training.
There is so much healing available (physically and energetically) when we stop spinning our wheels and start listening within.
Eliminating Health Mysteries
For Debbie, we were able to find that missing piece of the health puzzle and help her regain her health. Could this be the missing clue for you or someone in your life?
